In 1996, we began to invest in the development of domestic financial IC cards, and were the first localized company in Taiwan to develop COS. Since 1992, we have been acting as the agent for Datacard, the largest card issuer in the world, assisting banks in Taiwan to establish credit card/bank card issuance systems. With a market share in Taiwan of more than 90%, we have built solid customer relations with many banks. Our Factory has been certified by five major credit card companies : Visa, MasterCard, JCB, AE, and UnionPay. We seize development opportunities in the chip credit card and chip bank card markets and have gained more than 40% of the market share of bank cards, becoming the largest professional card provider in Taiwan.In 2004, we set up a production line for dual-interface chip credit cards, using a direct solder process to achieve the best reliability and durability. After efforts taken in market expansion over the past few years, we are now the major card supplier of EasyCard's co-branded credit cards for Taipei Fubon, CITIC Bank, Cathay United, Hua Nan Commercial Bank, First Commercial Bank, Mega International Commercial Bank, E.SUN Commercial Bank, Bank SinoPac, Taiwan Cooperative Bank, Chang Hwa Bank, and Taiwan Business Bank. At the same time, we started to develop the sales markets for dual-interface chip credit card sales and have since sold more than 20 million cards, making us a principal global dual-interface chip card manufacturer for major banks.
After the law governing electronically stored value cards was passed, Easycard Corporation became Taiwan's largest e-ticket operator. This, at the same time, opened up business opportunities for small payment systems used across many sectors, with the largest card issuance volume in Taiwan. In 2011, Foongtone received an annual EasyCard supplier contract from Easycard Corporation, and was certified as a supplier of 2nd-generation EasyCards, co-branded EasyCards, iCash EasyCards, and licensed EasyCards. Foongtone is also a major supplier of pre-paid cards to logistics and transport operators, including Uni-President Group, Far Eastern Group, KRTC, and Simcard Cards Technology.
In 2009, we began work with SONY after being formally certified by SONY Felica, while also making proactive efforts to participate in overseas travel card bids in order to expand our overseas market territory. For government projects, the Penghu Health Insurance IC Card Pilot Program, taking place in 1997, was our first government project participation. Within only two months, we replaced approximately 100,000 health insurance IC cards in Penghu County and our service was well received. At that time, we were also preparing for the 2000 full implementation of national health insurance (NHI) IC cards. In 2000, we participated in the construction of the NHI IC card centralized card issuance system, the initial phase of the issuance of NHI IC cards, as well as the SAM card. In 2003, we became a supplier of domestic natural person certificates. In 2007, we won the bid for military chip ID cards and security equipment from the Ministry of National Defense and Air Force, becoming a major supplier of military ID cards. It is important to mention that in 2008, we received an outsourcing service contract for NHI IC cards, making us the sole issuer of Taiwan' s health insurance IC cards and the operator of each card distribution center of the National Health Insurance Administration. We printed and issued all NHI cards to the public and the service provided was widely lauded. Consequently, Foongtone became the largest and most accomplished product and service provider for the government' s project of domestic smart IC cards.
